The Vasco da Gama Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge flanked by viaducts and roads that spans the Tagus River near Lisbon, capital of Portugal. It is the longest bridge in Europe (including viaducts), with a total length of 17.2 km (10.7 mi), including 0.829 km (0.5 mi) for the main bridge, 11.5 km (7.1 mi) in viaducts, and 4.8 km (3.0 mi) in dedicated access roads. Its purpose is to alleviate the congestion on Lisbon's other bridge (25 de Abril Bridge), and to join previously unconnected motorways radiating from Lisbon.
The bridge was opened to traffic on March 29, 1998, 18 months after construction first began, just in time for Expo 98, the World's Fair that celebrated the 500th anniversary of the discovery by Vasco da Gama of the sea route from Europe to India.

A ponte Vasco da Gama é uma ponte sobre o rio Tejo, na área da Grande Lisboa, ligando o Montijo e Alcochete a Sacavém, muito próximo do Parque das Nações, onde se realizou a Expo 98. Inaugurada a 4 de Abril de 1998, a ponte é a mais longa da Europa e a quarta mais extensa de todo o mundo, com os seus 17,2 km de comprimento, dos quais 10 estão sobre as águas do estuário do Tejo. O vão (comprimento do tabuleiro) do viaduto central é de 420 metros. Foi construída a fim de constituir uma alternativa à ponte 25 de Abril para o trânsito que circula entre o norte e o sul do país na zona da capital portuguesa.
Aquando da sua construção foi necessário tomar especiais cuidados com o impacto ambiental, visto que atravessa o Parque Natural do Estuário do Tejo, uma importante área à escala europeia de alimentação e nidificação de aves aquáticas. Foi também necessário proceder-se ao realojamento de 300 famílias.
O nome da ponte comemora os 500 anos da chegada de Vasco da Gama à Índia, em 1498.
É uma das mais altas construções de Portugal, com 148 metros de altura.

Vasco da Gama Köprüsü Portekiz'in başkenti Lizbon'da bulunan Tejo Nehri'nin üzerinden geçen bir köprüdür. Viyadükler ve destek yollarla birlikte toplam uzunluğu 17,2 km'dir ve bu uzunlukla Avrupa'nın en uzun köprüleri arasındadır. bu uzunluğunun 0,829 km'si ana köprü, 11,5 kilometresi destek viyadükler ve 4,6 km'si bağlantı yollarıdır.
Tejo Nehri'nin üzerindeki diğer büyük köprü olan 25 Nisan Köprüsü'nün yükünü hafifletmek için planlanmıştır. 1998 yılında Portekizli kaşif Vasco da Gama'nın Hindistan'a deniz yoluyla gitmesinin 500. yılı anısına düzenlenen Expo 98 fuarı öncesi 29 Mart 1998 tarihinde açılmıştır.

Olá Aires!
Tive a felicidade de conhecer esta ponte, ficar pertinho dela, lá embaixo, passar por ela, vindo do Algarve e vê-la do avião quando chegava em Lisboa. Não preciso dizer que sou um fã dela, pois a acho linda e muito fotogênica!
Sua foto está muito boa, nessa hora do dia, com cores fortes, a ponte quase como uma silhueta e este primeiro plano com pedras e reflexos do céu!

Olá Aires,
even it is a view to the bridge I think it adds "only" some background interest as the warm light and reflection and the foreground textures catch the eye. I like the good exposure for a morning mood and the light in the reflections.

I like the play of light and the way the bridge is used as a compositional element without dominating the frame!

Decididamente, és um mestre nestas fotos ao amanhecer! Quem olhe de perto para aquela lama ao vivo facilmente pensa que o aspecto quase nojento vai arruinar qq. foto, mas aqui está uma prova que isso não é verdade. As formas na lama equilibram a ponte ao fundo e os reflexos do céu na poça estão espectaculares.
