Welcome to the “green list”, a photo from Porto, North

Photographer's Note

From May 17th, residents of the United Kingdom are allowed to travel for leisure to few chosen countries which were marked by government as “green”. One of them is Portugal. In fact, it may be the only traditional holiday destination from Britain which has been opened for now. Even for a “green list” country we still require two Covid tests, one before coming back and another after return. This sets a new cruel standard for those who enjoy international travel. Before I can go anywhere, I must wait for school break yet. In the meantime, the “green list” may change, let us hope for better. It has inspired me to look into my photo archives for pics I took on my trip around Portugal.

We arrived in Porto in the late afternoon. I knew already that for the blue hour I want to reach Ponte Dom Luis I, amazing bridge over river Douro, with a breathtaking views from its top deck (about 45 meters high). I have showed before a more classic view from this bridge here:

Apparently the UK is a bit more enthusiastic (or too enthusiastic?).
Today we heard the following in our corona news:
Portugal and Slovakia turn orange on European coronavirus map.
I don't want to spoil your pleasure. But are there two different criteria for assigning a colour to a country?
In any case, the situation in both countries is evolving in a positive way.
I remember that not so long ago both countries had a lot of infections. Have they progressed that far with the vaccinations in the meantime? Or does their population follow the measures taken better than in some other countries (for example, where I live)?
Your picture is a true gem. Wonderful colours created by the illumination.
Those colours are also well reflected in the Douro.
The Dom Luís I Bridge in Porto is indeed the place to see the city from an impressive viewpoint. I was there twice but actually not yet during the blue hour.

This is one of the best photos I have seen on TE till now. What a brilliant composition...great Dof...it appears as if one is actually walking deep into the city following the lighted streets..wonderful pov..extreme sharpness and contrast...

A lovely gold yellow colours makes your picture extraordinarily.
Also in Belgium are rules, but I go never on vacation, for my no troubles.
Composition and presentation are pleasant to look at.

A great photo of the city here, seen from a great vantage point and with fantastic golden colours. The clarity and sharpness are superb and shows the many details, like for example the many small windows very well. The reflections in the water add a nice glow also.

Hi Mariusz,finally I also have the appointment for the first vaccination, June 1st, and in the meantime I have already booked two holidays for June and August, naturally in Italy for not having any problem, you never know, waiting for the green pass. The photo is fantastic, with warm colors like my last night from Marrakech, although here the spectacle of this very busy composition is definitely superior!

Interesting that you mentioned that Australia is on the green list when there isn't likely to be any border openings until some time next year at the earliest!

Hello Mariusz,

After all the problems with the virus spreading and lockdowns, I think the Government is being sensibly cautious about people travelling abroad. For a while, all nations will need to be both vigilant and cautious.

This photograph just pops off the screen, with its unusual colours and vast depth, containing excellent details of this elevated view of Porto.

Hello Mariusz, you obviously had done your homework before your trip, as you knew where the best point of view was to be had.
The height is astonishing. The details are very clear.
This shot stands out in the thumbnails with its golden glow.
