Garcia de Orta e a Arquitetura moderna

Before continuing the tandem postings with Rinie of the Rotterdam By Night series in a few days, a return to the Lisbon-Sotavento travelogue.
Displayed here is a part of the Parque das Nações in Lisbon. It was shot from a cabin of the téléphérique thru a narrow ventilation slit in the perspex window.

In the foreground is Jardim Garcia de Orta.
The website of the Parque staits the following about the Jardim:
“Garcia de Orta was an eminent XVI century doctor who lived in India for 30 years where he studied and classified numerous Asiatic plants. Author of Colóquio dos Simples e das Drogas da Índia is in this way remembered at the Parque das Nações.
Garcia da Orta Gardens presents, in landscaped areas, vegetation characteristic of various ecosystems considered representative of the areas of the origin of species, at the time of the Discoveries on a total of approx.2500m2. In this way it allows us to observe nature and its vegetation, since the crossing of the Oceans in 1498 until today.”

Behind is a strip with all kinds of restaurants. In one of them during lunch, we encountered the only modern thing that we didn't care for in the Parque - a Bacalhau A Bras where the fine shreds of baked potatoes were replaced by crude French fries ;-).
Behind the restaurant strip is the Sony Plaza, a sports and concert facility. In the background is the engaging architecture of the modernist urban sprawl flanking the Parque das Nações
