Photographer's Note

The Belen Tower was built by order of King Manuel the first, in 1515. Its function was to defend the Lisbon's harbor on the Tagus river.
The fortress also served as a tribute to the explorers as they ventured forth, the last thing they would see as they departed and the first when they returned laden with foreign treasure.
