Photographer's Note

Coimbra was, after Porto, the second destination which I have visited in my trip around Portugal. I found North Portugal more beautiful, interesting, with very kind people, excellent quality food and very low prices as opposed to the touristy Algarve. As much as Porto is still quite popular among international tourists, Coimbra is much less so. I spent most of my career working at numerous universities in few countries and I am always very curious to visit a university wherever I go. I could not miss the oldest university in Portugal, one of the oldest in the world. Even though it was originally founded in Lisbon it has been later relocated to Coimbra.

I will show you photos of the Coimbra University later. Here you can see the fašade of Igreja de Santa Cruz. It was founded in 1131. Although nothing remains from the original structure, it is strikingly beautiful. First two kings of Portugal were buried in this monastery.
