Photographer's Note

Sao Jorge is one of the nine islands in the middle of the Pacific that make up the Azores.

The islands are all the products of volcanic activity and so display fascinating landscapes that are completely alien to a Brit. This picture shows the steep cliffs of Sao Jorge (also known as the "cigar" because of its long narrow shape). I know it could do with a bit of cropping to cut off some of the clouds and is perhaps a bit too hazy and dull... but I think it's dramatic all the same.
