Photographer's Note
Mother's Day
The world filled with screams...
.....................
"Put the blame on mama
It was mama's fault..."
.....................
One of these puzzling critiques sent to me by e-mail rather than written under the photo (?), from one of the well known members of TE:
George,
You have a strange sense of humour...'.
"Sardines" are fished, killed, beheaded, put in salt, canned and then eaten.
You have no respect for the life.
A*****

she is like working at a bakery shop... like proud of the cakes she's just got out of the oven...
"which one would you like to buy mister?... they ve all come out of the womb minutes ago, so hot and fresh... i ve just wraped and packed them... the one in the middle? ok, here you go..."
the numbers behind are so confusing but still a great shot george>:P...

Hello George,
Following up on Korkut's food comment...they do look like little "baby burritos", all rolled and ready to go! I like the way the nurse is sandwiched in between the row of basinettes and the row of babies. Were you standing on a chair for this one?? I like the POV looking down. :-)

Moje dziecko urodzilo sie z burza wlosow.. a jakby bylo lysiutkie? I lezalo obok takiego samego - lysiutkiego?? Zdjecie urocze wiec, bo dotyczace radosnego momentu narodzin ale i dziwnie niepokojace e.. Ekspedientka za lada z towarem.. Towar ten zreszta, jak rozumiem po dacie, juz dorosl i sam pewnie niedlugo zacznie przygotowywac podobny pakuneczek.. The show must go on??? :)
z pozdrowieniami, agn

today, i've seen so many different approaches about mother's day.. and yours is very different and creative also.. i can hear their cries and screams.. the photo was taken in 1980, and the newborn babies are now a year older than me:)
best wishes George..

Hello George,
This scene could come from a Charlie Chaplin movie like "Modern Times" or from the most grueling horror film. all depends upon the meaning of the smile of the nurse...
Very well captured.

"Szczecin" I have to change trains there tomorrow night, and will have dinner there. Who knows, one of these babies might serve me dinner, or tell me where to go. Do you have names, George ? ;-)
I love this one, I remember it. Nowadays they tend to go back to this system of wrapping, it's much better for the babies, apparently.
Hope, you're well George. I couldn't resist to write something, seeing the city's name.

Hi george,
Indeed! A baby factory for mother's day. The B&W adds ro the strange spectacle ;o) Time has changed the way we take care of those babies. Especially regarding the mother's rights ;o))
Best wishes

George??? George??? I hate, I hate, I hate sardines. Really: I vomit if I see a sardelle in my plate (and you don't like mushroom's soup, if I am not wrong...). But I love SO much your photo. Grande, grande George! You are wonderful!

She must have gotten the Heroic Mother of the Socialist Motherland award, for sure. Love this socialist kitsch, George (at least this is how I see it now :-) It would have been perfect in the DDR Museum of Berlin ;-) Good one!

Zabawne zdjecie. W tamtym czasie w Warszawie juz dzieci były na ogół z matkami. Teraz to wygląda całkiem inaczej.
Pozdr. M.

"Wszystkie dzieci nasze są..." :)))
Prawdziwie szprotki w puszce. I jedna w drugą, kropka w kropkę.
Cudne.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah! Funny and lovable! Such a wonderful photo for Mother's Day! How can someone resists the sight of this alignment of babies and babies' beds. And the disarming smile of the nurse in between.
Perfect framing with a "regularity" that goes with the so perfectly tucked babies.
Love it!

Ty mnie doprowadzasz, Youri, do szalu, tymi twoimi przepieknymi produkcjami. Bo mnie kiedys sie marzylo, azeby dorosnac ci do kostek, a juz wiem, ze piet juz nawet lizac Ci nie bede.
Czy to zdjecie bylo publikowane w prasie ?
Jesli nie, to prasa stracila mozliwosc zrobienia wielkiego hitu. To zdjecie powinno obleciec swiat, jak slynny pocalunek Doisneau.
Jestem niema z podziwu.
Sardynki !!!

A classic. Did all of those sardines come out of the same fish?!

Your photos are full of life, a celebration of it, the bad side and the good side of it. These little people they will be finishing their twenties... As time goes by... How was the song of Casablanca? "No matter what the future brings, as time goes by". Pues eso.
Miguel:
PS: George, you are a very bad, bad person ;-)

Hmm, I wish to nitpick a tad, shouldn't they be aligned head to toe ? But then, Poles know nothing about sardines :))). I like them natural, with pure virgin olive oil, or a little tomato preparation.
Funny, human, food for thought, somewhat kitchy, great document of times past, and an extremely tender photograph. Wonder what they do now ? A masterpiece, to be cherished, as all your work on that subject.

I saw some rumbling about this one, about no respect and other bla bla not knowing and seeing that you made a great one here. That smile of the nurse....priceless, and those little new born ones...how delicate packed together, waiting to start a new life. Lovely shot, so very good in your own style....when you don't see this you ain't see a thing...keep them coming.
