The Belchatow Coal Mine is the biggest opencast mine of brown coal in Poland. The company was established in 1975, while on 19 November 1980 the first tones of coal were mined. The mine is located several kilometers to the south of Belchatow. It is 12 km long and about 3 km wide, while the difference between the obserwation decks (where this photo was taken) and the bottom is about 200m.
