Photographer's Note

Gatehouse of the Grodno Castle near the border between Poland and the Czech Republik. The Castle is located on the Choina Mountain in Central Sudetes above the valley of river Bystrzyca. Today, the valley became a picturesque artificial Lubachowskie lake.
The Grodno castle was built in 1193, by Duke Bolesław I the Tall. The castle, together with a network of fortresses was used as a defense line to protect the Silesia-Bohemian route. It was a very turbulent border area. It was repeatedly destroyed by war and fire, and also served as the seat of robbers on the trade route between Prague and Lower Silesia.
The castle is hidden in a beautiful old forest, between tall trees and it is difficult to take a picture of the whole castle. In my photo you can see the gatehouse decorated with sgraffito in a Renaissance manner (1545 = 1587).
In WS I posted a photo of the entrance to the Grodno Castle.
