Photographer's Note

Grodno Castle, one of the buildings with the front gate.
The castle is located in the north part of the Owl Mountains, at the top of Choina mountain (450 meters above sea level). The castle dates back to 1198, to the time of Duke Boleslaus the Tall. Over the cen¬turies the castle changed owners several times, and its greatest prosperity occurred in the sixteenth century – under the rule of Maciej of Glogow. As a result of later armed conflicts it was destroyed several times and fell into ruin. In 1951, after World War II, the restoration works began and they are still ongoing.
The castle was rebuilt and upgraded sev¬eral times over the centuries, hence in the old walls one can find remnants of many architectural styles. Particularly beautifully present the Renaissance sculpted details. Also dating from this period is the front gate, one of the most beautiful buildings of the kind in Poland.
On the day the photo was taken, the top of the mountain and the castle were covered by low level clouds.
