Photographer's Note


The entrance gate that prisoners called the "Gate of Death" was located in the main SS guardhouse building. Trains carrying deportees entered here after May 1944 on the railroad spur that extended into the camp.

No tripod was used here; I crouched and kind of squashed my elbow between my chest & legs to keep the camera as still as possible.

You see Auschwitz on TV and in books, but when you are actually there you can really feel it.
