Autumn Colours [5], a photo from Sor-Trondelag, South

Photographer's Note

When passing top of the ridge I look down in this valley where the 10 km long lake Samsjøen is located, and the lake is known for its population of fine trout. Many small rivers and streams end in Samsjøen, but there is only one river leading the water out of the lake.

This area has had building restrictions since the early 1950ties, and the only cabins around are converted summer farms and very few in numbers.

In a far distance you can see a thin veil of clouds, that is the haze usually drifting in from the Atlantic Ocean on warm summer and autumn days…

This image was taken as early as September 17 but the autumn colours are already very much present. The moor is turning brownish and the trees are throwing the yellow leaves… However, pines are dominating the vegetation, but trees grow only in locations sheltered from the worst winter storms.

Normally I would want to see some clouds in the sky when this much space in the frame is allotted to it. However in this case the way the colour grades from dark blue at the top to the pale hazy blue on the horizon is very attractive. The colours in the foreground provide a perfect contrast to all the blue.

Hola Pablo...what a beautiful view...very dreamlike...those colours- specially the sky- highlight a very peaceful & captivating view.
Maybe a more pano crop, cutting out some of the sky but still retaining part of the dark hues in it would be another alternative.

Well composed with autumn indeed coming early to this region. The reddish tones and hues of the ground and bracken are well seen and I like the depth of focus in the photo. The smidge of water in the background, the far hills, and the haze drifting from the Atlantic all complement and enhance the scene nicely. Well done.

Hi Pablo,
You took a picture of this lake in the summer didn't you? I like the idea of posting the same view in different seasons. You still have that wonderful blue sky but now the autumn collors give a fresh POV. You still have in your intro that you're a point & shoot kind of guy but I really think you've moved far beyond that. Even photo is a well-thought out masterpiece. Even up there, that nasty haze creeps in from below.

The handfull of little red flowers in the foreground is lighting up the image .
I am sure this place looks lovely at any time of the year , and how I would enjoy to sit on the hill on the left hand side with a picnic basket and just look for hours.............!

You used a great part of blue sky, but it has such a beautiful large gradiant of blue in it that is not really bothering me, i like it a lot. It stands in perfect contrast to the wonderful red/brown earth colour. And the lake in the far distance is really making the depth here...perfect..!!!

This is the first time I am seein your portflio and I like the landscaps. In ur part of the world nature is so abundant that it makes photographers job easy but u still have 2 go out n shoot and find the rite perspective which u do with some consistency.

If I were to stand where you are, I would probably not take a shot, but upon closer scrutiny of this one I find indeed there are aesthetic elements worth capturing. The colours, the lovely and graceful curves and the detailed textures in the foreground all helped to make this a pleasing and attractive scene. The space itself gave that feeling of freedom.
