Autumn Colours [1], a photo from Sor-Trondelag, South

Photographer's Note

My part of the world is not very photogenic for the time being, in a period between autumn and winter. I have been planning to publish a small series on autumn colours from the mountains of Central Norway for a while, and this seems to be the right time…

This autumn we had some great weather, and I have made several trips to the mountains to look for autumn colours. The place I went to is located at an altitude close to 1000 m, and because of this autumn will appear much earlier as compared to the lowlands.

Some of you may be aware of my fascination for trees, and of course I could not resist this specimen however small and insignificant it is! The guy in the picture is a survivor… He shouldn’t be there at all since this is well above the tree line!

This is for a start… more will follow!

This is a most beautiful picture of this tiny birch which - I think - has a lot of fighting there against weather... It's neighbour at the left (a spruche?)shows the consequences of life here. But I think, YOUR tree is a fighter ...! ;-)

What a lonely tree. So far above its neighbors and stricken by the obviously harsh climate. Good gradient of blue in the sky to set a nice background for the simple scene. I also like the subtle curves of the hillsides.

Hi Pablo,
In this sparse, bare country, above the treeline; this lone and twisted tree stands alone as a testament to to the fortitude required to survive in such a harsh environment. There's none of the easy, lush tropical growth here. You've captured it all with the excellent detail of the tree and grass against the blue sky.

Caribou's feeds,or reindeer in Norway.
Our country are very much alike as for the environment and the flora as I have seen this kind of vegetation in many areas in Quebec.
The lonely tree gives much significance to the composition and it will have some company very soon by looking at what looks like a fir tree on the left.

Trees are also a subject which I like a lot! Although this one is not a its best it looks great and its leafs contrasts well with the sky.
The low horzion line is nice here leaving space for this fantastic sky.

What would the world of mystique be without? The haunted graveyards, the grasping on the windows through a stormy night, the endless fight between neighbours and their trees reachin over the fence.. You have captured rich brightness, colour and texture here. As most have said, the composition has impact because of a straightforward and almost minimalist composition. This is good as it focuses more attention on the subject. The detail and crispness of the image is good, as is usual from you, and the composition is well balanced. The Hoya filter has brought out the hues very nicely and the blue sky is well saturated. Excellent work.

Hi Pablo. Nice photo emphasising the struggle for life in a harsh environment. I can’t help but wonder what the photo would look like with a slightly lower POV to eliminate the parallel horizon on the left side. It’s a small point I know but I wonder just the same. i favour the lone tree shot..it almost fills the mind with the message..all the rest is just detail..the statment is that the great outdoors can be pretty small yet demanding attention..its little competitor on the left could have been removed..just to make it more lonely..:)

Hello Pablo,

With the gentle gradation in the blue in the sky, there is a lovely backdrop to this lone tre. I chose a shot in which you explan, "My part of the world is not very phtogenic for the time bing,..." Well you most certainly make photogenic of whatever you photograph. Leonardo's lines, "You must only observe and ponder, that the commonplace becomes wondrous, and the wondrous commonplace," resonate in your shots of everyday things. There is an allure in an isolated tree. Sometimes you see a photograph of a lonely "Bristlecone Pine," in faraway California. To me that is a compelling shot -- of course, there the tree has been standing for three-to-four thousand years.

Olá Pablo, poor lonely tree. Indeed a survivor, even if it doesn't look so strong and healthy. Lonely trees are allways an attraction for minimalist compositions and this is no exception. It surprises me the perfect sunny weather that is allways seen in your photos. I would picture Norway with a very rainy and grey weather...but that's what I see in your gallery ;-) Beautiful simple image.
