Photographer's Note

Last Saturday, I was on a great hike with another Trek Earth photographer. After 2 hours of hiking we had the pleasure of enjoying the view from the top of Bruviknipa, 822 meters above sea level. Bruviknipa is one of Bergen's finest mountains, located at the south-east side of Oster°y island, the largest inland island in northern Europe.

The small island in the middle of the photo has a special history.

In 1881 there was established a school for boys aged 10 to 15 years on the island, Ulvsnes°y school. The boys who went to school, lived on the island. They were sent there by the authorities because of neglect or behavioral problem. After the school was closed down in 1981 it was converted into a part of the Bergen district jail.
