Photographer's Note

This is a picture taken at the site at the beginning of the street Vågsallmenningen in Bergen. The last syllable of the street name "allmenning" refers to a type of street that is designed in a very wide street or square to prevent fire from spreading. This particular square and "allmenning" is right next to the fishmarket, running towards the old Town hall built in 1558. In the past just that was an important point, that one from the Town Hall had views of the fish market, so that the elected practically had close contact with the people they were set to serve.

The statue of the famous Bergen author Ludvig Holberg was born in Bergen in 1664. The yellow building to the right was built for Norway's national bank, one has for years now been an art gallery.

Thanks for viewing.
