Photographer's Note

Middagtinden (1006 m) is one of the highest mountains at the island of Kval°ya, around 25 km west of Troms°.
This alpine area is popular among telemark skiers and others who prefer the more vertical mountains.
Some zigzag ski tracks can be seen in the side of the mountain.
This picture is from the Easter of 2006, one of my first digital shots, with a borrowed Nikon E5700.

From Wikipedia:

"Kval°ya is an island in the Norwegian municipality of Troms°. It has an area of 737 km▓, making it the fifth largest island in mainland Norway. It is connected to Troms°ya in the east by Sandnessund Bridge, Ringvass°ya in the north by the undersea Kvalsund Tunnel, and Sommar°y in the west by Sommar°y Bridge. Sommar°y, at the southwest coast, is a popular recreation area with great coastal scenery.

Kval°ya is a mountainous island, with at least ten mountains higher than 700 m, and three reaching an elevation of more than 1000 m; of which the highest is Store Blňmann (big blueman 1044 m, can be climbed without climbing equipment, last part is steep). There are also several small fjords, almost dividing the island in two or three parts. Rystraumen is a tidal current in the fjord dividing Kval°ya from the mainland. Near this current, on the Kval°ya side, is Straumhella (30 km from the city), a popular recreation area with good fishing opportunities. Ry°ya is an island in the midst of Rystraumen, with a small population of musk oxen grazing in the pine forest, the only such population in North Norway.

Approximately 10 000 people live on Kval°ya, most of them on the eastern side at Kval°ysletta (which constitutes a suburban area of the city Troms°) near the Sandnessund Bridge."
