Passing by

With Norbert and Torben on the Kop Zuid - an urban restructuring plan, well underway modernizing the old harbour area on the South bank of the Maas, with its defunct ports, warehouses and railway heads, into a integrated living, shopping and commercial service quarter.
The Wilhelminaplein subway station and the new Luxor theatre were the main targets of our ‘post-program shoot’.

A mother and daughter passed the front entrance of the subway station. The different clothing styles spanning two generations in combination with the subway station area, a place of dynamics and change, was too strong to leave uncaptured.

Passing by is a Beach Boys track from their 1968 Friends album, released on Capitol.

PCS2 tech: heavily cropped, altered the contrast, saturation, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, USM-ed , added a frame and saved for the web.

Hoi Bert,
Ik zou kunnen dat het Moeder en dochter is, maar de uitwendige cultuur zijn niet te vergelijken, de jonge vrouw heeft zicht precies aangepast aan onze westerse leef omgeving waar de Moeder vermoedelijk een ander godsdienst of een andere opleiding heeft. De oorbellen zijn hier wel de grootste blikvangers, goed dagelijks gebeuren beeld!
Prettig weekend gewenst, maar hou u maar goed vast want er is een windkracht op komst van 7 a 8 baufort, dit voor de komende dag en nacht.

I remember the two ladies passing by before we went inside the station, Bert. This one turned out nicely with a good showing of their postures and expressions, and also a reasonable DOF setting them apart from the modern architecture of the subway station. Good photo.

For your amusement, I'm attaching my shot with the slightly screwed-up timing (M sign growing out of the younger woman's head) as a workshop :o)

Hej Bert,
Een uitstekende foto van deze twee generaties. Ze staan beiden mooi op de foto. Ik vind het ook leuk dat dochter naar beneden staart terwijl moeder naar rechts kijkt. De ingang van de metro vormt een goede achtergrond en tot slot vind ik ook het licht mooi hier. :-) Prima werk!

Een mooie meid, leuk, met een prachtige diepte in kleursetting en in het beeld met een zeer lichte OOF background die deze personen losmaken van de achtergrond en dit dieptegevoel vergroten. Dit noemt men 'fingerspitzengefül' deze fijne setting.
Fijne techniek die deze mooi geplaatste personenin het frame ten volle versterken.
Wel makkelijker in eigen taal hé

La lumière sélective éclaire parfaitement la jeune demoiselle qui se détache bien de l'arrière-plan.

Beautiful light, colors and sharpness to create an impressive daily life shot. I like all the details on the center girl. She almost stands out of the compo in a 3D effect. Well done.

Een mooie, bijna toevallige opname. Ik ben hierbij altijd geboeid door de gezichten en de houding. Het meisje denkt vast over haar vriendje en de vrouw met hoofddoek ziet vast in de spiegeling dat je een foto van ze maakt.

Een prachtige foto dat de realiteit in Nederland nauwkeurig samenvat. De multiculturele samenleving is nou precies wat Nederland zo mooi en uniek maakt (althans dat is mijn mening). De vrouw met de hoofddoek is meest waarschijnlijk met haar man uit Marokko of Turkije naar Nederland verhuist. Ze heeft de opgedane normen en waarden uit het land van herkomst naar Nederland mee geïmporteerd. Volkomen logisch en begrijpelijk. Het meisje is meest waarschijnlijk hier in Nederland geboren en opgegroeid. Ze heeft de normen en waarden van dit land verworven. Beide situaties moeten kunnen worden geaccepteerd.

This image is very tricky... the composition is balanced by a very interesting element: the full figure reflection on the glass of the girl. Brilliant use of the rail as an element of design to lead the action. Well seen and capture.
