Photographer's Note
No Ferrari for Nicky Lauda
1200 pixel version
I took this picture yesterday on a nice exhibition in museum “De Hallen” in Haarlem.
The visitor:
He inspired me for the title of this picture. With the red cap on his head he let me think he was Nicky Lauda with the red cap he is always wearing.:
The Car
No red Ferrari but a wooden car made by Joost Conijn
The outside of the car is mainly of wood, but the car also use wood as fuel for a wood gas-generator. Joost travelled with this car in Eastern Europe.
The painting
The painting the man is looking at is of Wijtze Gerrit Carel (Wim) Schuhmacher.
He was a Dutch painter and designer. He is mostly associated with Magic realism.
His nickname is "The Master of Grey" because of the grey haze that seems to cover his later work. Towards the end of his life, he became considerably less productive due to increasingly worse eyesight.
The Exhibition
WANDERLUST - Dutch Artists’ Urge to Travel since 1850
28.05.2016 - 11.09.2016
Wanderlust, a major exhibition being staged this summer in De Hallen Haarlem, focuses on travel as a source of inspiration for artists. There will be countless examples of Dutch art from the last century and a half, including paintings, sketchbooks, photographs and three-dimensional work. Dozens of artists are represented - from Jan Sluijters, Isaac Israëls and Marius Bauer to contemporary artists like Joost Conijn, Jan Dibbets, Rob Birza, Jennifer Tee and Roy Villevoye. Their journeys generated on-the-spot impressions or inspired creative manipulations on their return home.

Hello Rob,
A car that runs on wood; a very interesting concept. A well constructed composition with this tight framing that cleverly ties the two main elements together. Excellent colours and clarity. I like the warm tones offered by the car, which make a lovely contrast with the green paintwork.

Dear Rob,
It is a very witty observation, I have to admit! You did a great job with the composition as well. Goes to my favourites.
Best Wishes,

Dag Rob,
John

Hi Rob,
A good comparison between the car and the red cap looking similar to the one that Nicky Lauda used to wear at a Formula 1 race. The point of view is showing the details of the car, of the cap and of the painting. Well done, have a nice day.

Hello Rob,
This seems to have been a very entertaining exhibition. Sadly I didn't have time to see this museum. You managed to combine several elements in this interesting and very nicely composed photo.
Kind regards,
Gert

Bonjour Rob,

Hi dear Rob
very wise and nice combination of a picture, a watcher and a stylish car in so reasonable vertical format. So highly elegant mood is catch and conveyed to us.

Ciao Rob
per un attimo ho pensato veramente che si trattasse di Lauda!!!
Interessante e curioso il fatto che tu sia stato ispirato da Nicky Lauda e il pittore si chiami Schumacher....
Saluti

Hello Rob,
Made a nice combinatiuon and the assumption to let us think you met with the great Nicky Lauda, but a good idea. The wooden car must be a masterpiece especially if it was in driving condition back in time.
Have a nice Friday afternoon,

Hello, Rob!
Three interesting elements with very good note about each one of them, but the most interesting for me is this wooden car, I've never seen one like that! Excellent colors and sharpness! Beautiful composition!

Hi, Rob!
First of all Happy Birthday again! Happy New Year! ;)
I thought you show us full size car in WS. I have read about the wood gas-generator trucks, they were "popular" during WWII, as a cheap way to drive. Thanks for this informative note.
Best!

Hello Rob,
I missed this whilst away but am so glad I found it!
It is a superb shot and a title that links the images so amusingly!
I find the extended headlight extremely important. It is almost as if it is winking at the viewers about what has been inferred in the title, especially when you notice the lagged 'pipe'around the shabby, substitute Ferrari.
Great viewpoint!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
