Tulips red-yellow A -VII, a photo from Zeeland, South

Photographer's Note

This is my 900th photograph.

The first picture after my bike accident, Saturday early in the morning, not with my bike but with the car, I look for to the tulip fields about the border in Netherlands.
I could very a lot enjoy of these beautiful morning, not a lot wind and a lot sun.
Aardenburg a rural municipality with 2500 habitants, on 6 mile of my home, and 10 mile of the North Sea, with a great history, you can read in the note.

Aardenburg is a small city close to the Dutch border with Belgium. It is part of the Sluis Municipality, located in the province of Zeeland in the Netherlands. Its medieval name was Rodenburgh (Red Castle).
History
Archeologists have found proof of settlement as early as 4500 BC.
The site was a small Roman Vicus, flourishing in the second and third centuries AD, where the foundations have been uncovered of a small Celto-Roman temple.
After the Second World War restorations to damaged buildings uncovered fragments of Roman roof tiles, of which some bear the markings of a Roman military post, as well as black vases and Roman sandals.
The most significant find, however, was that of a Roman building with a foundation of 18 by 10 meters.
The Roman Castellum was in use from 175 to 270 AD.

On top of the foundations of this Roman building there were the remains of a Medieval building, which was destroyed in 1383 according to later accounts. Rodenburgh was granted city rights in 1127 and is thus one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and is the oldest city in Zealand.

The diagonal lines of the rows of tulips are assets to the composition. The point of view leads our eyes toward the trees in the background which is giving depth to the photo. The intensity of the light is enhancing the colors of the picture. Have a nice day.

A classic holland shot - flat land, blue sky, loads of colorful tulips! The diagonals and the horizon line pull the eye nicely to one point, which is closer to the right edge than usual, so it gives a different feel. Interesting.

Van harte gefeliciteerd, en wat een pracht van een shot voor de gelegenheid! Ik was zaterdag in de vroege middag ook op mijn fiets naar de Bollenstreek (vlakbij Haarlem) vertrokken om daar de tulpen te fotograferen. Strakke blauwe hemel in Amsterdam, maar toen ik daar aankwam was het helemaal grijs geworden, met een licht van niks... Geen probleem, toch lekker gefietst!
Maar goed, wat ik hier zie is heel mooi. Een klassieke shot, zowel kwa perpectief als kwa kleuren. Chapeaux, vriend! Ik wens je nog een fijne avond. De hartelijke groeten uit een zonnig Amsterdam,

900 foto's, man daar kom ik nooit aan toe, dat trek ik domweg nirt en zoveel goede heb ik ook niet.
Blijft mooi he die bollenvelden met al die bloemen, ook ik ga steevast ieder jaar heen terwijl ik hier bakken vol heb liggen........zou trouwens wel 900 bloemen foto's kunnen posten ;-)

Very impressive colors of spring! And very good 900th post and to know that you have finally been able to go out to shoot. I can see that to get this POV, you still need to walk a distance from the car.

What would be the Netherlands without tulips? It is part of your country and I like them since my childhood. Naturally here in Asia I do not often see them, here we have more orchids. The small path between the red tulip fields boost DOF tremendously while the yellow tulip stripe improve the appeal of your picture. Not to be forgotten the great contrast between the read and the blue of the sky. A perfect picture - well done.

Hi, John,

On your "featured photos" area in TE, this image comes up adjacent to "Winter in Flanders J-X" (posted 11 Jan 09). I make this note because of the strong compositional similarities I see in the two photos. These are mainly in your use of a strong vanishing point construction, with the lines created by the management on the ground of nature by humankind. Also, you have in each case positioned the vanishing point in the same location: middle of the frame vertically and near the right edge.

In both of these photos, the construction works wonderfully.

Of course, there are many other nice elements in this photo as in your wintertime one. The colors are outstanding. I especially admire your rendering of red, something I find difficult to capture well. (Do you have a secret that you can share?)

I notice two small distracting details: (a) the photographer's shadow (?) in the lower right of the frame; (b) the sky has some dark spots scattered about (source unclear). These are minor matters for an otherwise superb shot.

Anyway, another great photo! Congratulations!

My parent's visited here when my dad was an American serviceman stationed in Europe in the 50's. I remember his photos from that visit showing the beautiful long tulip rows such as the one in your photo. That must be an amazing sight to see. Thanks for sharing.

Mooie standpunt ingenomen, door de
diagonale lijnen is er extra veel
diepte ontstaan.
Ook de verdeling van de foto is
heel verzorgd, dat versterkt nog
eens de diepte.
De belichting is ook heel goed
dat zorgt ervoor dat elke detail
goed te zien is en zorgt ook voor
de mooie kleuren.
Twee kleine verbeterpuntjes:
pas op dat uw schaduw er niet
opstaat en haal de stofdeeltje
die in de lucht te zien is weg,
dan is de foto geheel perfect.

The result is equally interesting, although here the graphism and the vibrant colours are exaggerated in a bold and stunning manner. I like how the main perspective has been placed in the frame, how the shadows exalt the textures and how the colours seem about to explode. The # 900 is very nice,especially color wise. It's a painting with the primary colors red, yellow and blue. And a bit of the secondary color green. A simple , crisp composition that could only be realized in Belgium or Holland. Great scene, John
