Photographer's Note

APMT-Rotterdam terminal at 21.00

Today, the world's largest container vessel - "Emma Maersk" visited Rotterdam on her maiden voyage.

Around 1900, the expected time of departure from the port, there were many observers at Hoek van holland - a tiny town just in front of the terminal.

However... the time was passing and 'Emma' was still standing. I could not wait any more, because even with 5 sec shutter speed the quality of photos was 'so-so'. So, I took this photo and withdrew :)

From the first glance, you see mess. However, let's look more attentively. In the middle of the photo you see a funnel of an Arab tanker. To the right from it, there are 4 gantry granes with their outriggers raised up. Below these cranes and right to the chimney, you can see a yellow accomodation desk of 'Emma' and aft of this impressive vessel, filled with containers.

Some details of 'Emma':
Length: 397 m
Beam: 57 m
Capacity (official): 11.000 of 20-foot containers
