Photographer's Note

Flying over Amsterdam

As Rob wrote yesterday in the note of his picture, last Sunday we were passengers in a Cessna for an aerial tour over the Western part of The Netherlands, Holland. We took off from Lelystad Airport in 'de Flevopolder' and flew in the following two hours over: Almere - Naarden - Amsterdam - Schiphol - Haarlem - Zandvoort - Scheveningen - Hoek van Holland - Deltawerken - Rotterdam - Hilversum.

My first picture of this tour that I would like to share is one of the centre of the captital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam.
With a lot of links to other pictures of mine from Amsterdam, I would like to tell what you can see.
At the right hand side of the shot, you can see Station Amsterdam Centraal (Central Station) and in front of it de Sint Nicolaas Kerk (Saint Nicholas Church).
At the other side of the picture you can see het Koninklijk Paleis op de Dam (Royal Palace at Dam Square) and de Nieuwe Kerk (New Church). Also het Nationaal Monument (National War Memorial) can be seen.
The tower in the middle of the picture is de Zuiderkerk, the white building in front of it is de Stopera.
The river totally in the foreground is de Amstel. The water in the background is het IJ and het Noordzeekanaal (North Sea Canal).
These are the most important buildings on the picture.
The picture was taken from about 400m (1200ft).

More pictures of the aerial tour: take a look in the theme: Flying over Holland.
