Photographer's Note

One of the classic Maltese buses in distinctive yellow and orange livery.

The bus system in Malta is based on a fleet of vehicles that are owned and maintained by the drivers. On average these buses are 30 years old with some considerably older than that. Noisey and rickety for sure but each with its individual charm and styling they have become an iconic sight throughout the island and a big favourite with tourists.

This shot was taken at the Valletta bus terminal at Triton fountain. A number 62 preparing to leave for Paceville. I particularly liked the slogan "Thank God" painted on the front. Seemed to sum it all up I thought.

I understand that plans are being made for the existing service to be replaced by a modern system run by a commercial operator. A more comfortable but I fear less memorable ride beckons.
