The Fort and the Museum

This photo was taken at the edge of the district of Kirchberg, located to the northeast of the city centre. It shows the reconstruction of Fort Thüngen, which was rebuilt in the 1990s after the original fortress was demolished as demanded in the 1867 Treaty of London (along with other Luxembourg fortifications). The background shows the modern architecture of Mudam (officially: Musée d'art moderne Grand-Duc Jean), which opened in 2006. The museum was designed by I.M. Pei, who is best known for the Louvre pyramid.
