Photographer's Note

back to the photos from Riga, this time showing a detail from a little bridge in the center of the city that's literally covered with "love padlocks". I have no idea who started it, but Riga has joined several cities, among them Rome and Florence, where sweethearts affix padlocks to a fence or similar public fixture to symbolise their love. in Riga married couples clamp padlocks on the railings of a bridge and throw the key into the lake below. I saw padlocks with engravings in Latvian, Russian, English, French, Polish, and even some oriental characters.

about the photo - I waited for about 30 minutes for the sun to come out and shine on these mostly gold coloured padlocks, and I chose this particular detail mainly because of the two colour accents.
