Photographer's Note
Yesterday was a very lucky day, I finally met after a long time the most curious butterfly in my region. This is the Apatura ilia, the purple emperor, which has the characteristic of changing color, from brown to purple, depending on the refraction of the light on the wings. Looking at the WS you can see the differences.

Ciao Luciano,
This is a very unique butterfly that really grabbed my attention. You got an excellent shot of its beautiful wings, and there are interesting details on the body, too. It looks very soft and hairy. :-) The background of different stones is also very nice. Take care!

Wonderful colors for this butterfly specie, Luciano.
Wings were fully spanned when captured, enable to watch its purple patterns.
Buona giornata.

Ciao caro Luciano,
This is a magnificent specimen, well named the purple emperor! It does have an aristocratic awe about it!
You have achieved another pin sharp shot of a butterfly, showing off its finery against the gravelly b/g.
The colour change is remarkable!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Luciano, what a phenomenon, I have never seen anything quite like this before. You must have been so pleased to find it.
With the neutral colours of the background, its' colours appear even more vivid; it is very beautiful.
Excellent sharpness.
Kind regards, Jean.

I imagine these changes of color according with the light make the birds confused. a marvelous animal and you got it in a special pose and in different ways. we have a special big butterfly i my town, but it is very shy and it is ever difficult to take its image with open wings (it is ever hiding the precious blue inside).
take care

Hi Luciano,
Wow, that's special. Needless to say, I have never seen this butterfly. Purple is wonderful. And variation of colour depending on the angle is certainly fascinating. Grey gravel background enhances the impact.

Ciao Luciano,
Amazing photos you are so good at this and we are learning about butterflies so much from you. Here the background is less natural but it makes a nice contrast with the living creature.
Interesting effect withg different colors in the workshop.
Brilliant work,

Hello Luciano, Yes indeed! The colours are different. How interesting. Fantastic picture as always, with spectacular sharpness and colours. You were lucky to be able to observe it long enough.
There are interesting butterflies with transparent wings. I would like to see it.

Hi Luciano.
Wonderful this butterfly, for me it has been quite a surprise, because I did not know this species and its ability to change color, also how lucky you were to capture it at both times with different colors, it is a beautiful specimen.
A fantastic photo, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.
Very well done. I'm lovin 'it.
Enjoy the weekend.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Ciao Luciano
There are a couple of butterflies here that have iridescent colours on their wings too. The Great Eggfly is attracted to lantana flowers, an introduced plant from South America. Maybe next Spring I should try to learn how to take a rapid series of images and delete all bar the best one?

Hello Luciano,
You portrayed a butterfly that was unknown for me. I have never seen this species before with a reason: it does not lives in my country, we are too fair up North.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hello Luciano,
I readily admit that I have never seen such a butterfly with such a beautiful strong colour contrast.
The combination of blue and orange brown seems very exceptional to me.
This butterfly didn't even sit on a flower to pose for you.
I'm surprised it's the same butterfly in the photo in the WS.
Splendid sharp pictures!
Best regards, Paul
