Monastery of Santa Scolastica
Of the twelve monasteries built by St. Benedict in the Subiaco valley, the only one that survived the earthquakes and Saracen destruction was that of Santa Scolastica, which, until the end of the twelfth century, was the only monastery in Subiaco. Originally it was called "Monastery of San Silvestro", later (IX century) it was called "Monastery of San Benedetto and Santa Scolastica" and in the XIV century it took its current name. It looks like a complex of buildings built in different eras and styles: an entrance, on which appears the inscription "Ora et Labora", with structures of the twentieth century, introduces the first cloister or "Renaissance Cloister" of the sixteenth century, from which it passes into a second cloister or "Gothic Cloister" of the XIV century and, finally, in a third, called "Cosmatesco Cloister", of the XIII century. The bell tower dates back to the 12th century and the current church is from the end of the 1700s, the last of five churches that have stratified over the centuries.

Hello Silvio,
A fantastic view from above of the beautiful monastery. The grey and pink buildings are perfectly surrounded by quite dense green vegetation. It's a very nice composition with a perfect exposure.
Best regards,

Ciao Silvio
A superb elevated vantage point overlooking the monastery. Good sharpness and punchy light contrasts. The multi levelled tower at left provides a great focal point. Tfs!

Hi Silvio,
Les arbres cadrent bien le monastère. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails du monastère Santa Scolastica. La lumière fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne journée.

Ciao Caro Silvio,
From this viewpoint, we get an excellent view of the plan of the monastery. The centre looks remarkably similar to the layout of Roman villas, seen in England.
You have shown the complexity of the site and captured it with excellent clarity.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

A fine view from above the monastery complex, Silvio, the grey/brown edifices contrast from the green forest surrounding.
Buona serata,

Hello Silvio, you always manage to get some excellent high points of view; this is no exception.
We can see all the complex that is the monastery.
I wonder how many people live here?
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Silvio
There's a strong and effective architectural value down below and lovely that there's a clear separation of elements making this look so contrasty in its green environment. An adventurous bird eye view well captured
Best regards

Hi Silvio
I like how the monastery takes up almost the entire frame, its smartly positioned. The light was strong in the mid day, but overall the looks is still excellent. Great subject
cheers
