Photographer's Note

Identification : The size of the bird is medium to large the bill is black and the legs and feet are a pale grey or blue-grey in colour. The bill is long and is up-curved and the legs are very long and pale grey, the general plumage is slightly pied.
Habits : Usually gregarious in small flocks, sometimes solitary. Flocks fly in close formation the black and white wings give it fluttery effect to flight
Distribution : From south England to the south of Moroco

Status : Common and widespread resident and local nomad

Habitat : It prefers shallow water in estuaries and lagoons, marine shores and dams

Food : Insects, crustaceans, worms and small fish

Breeding : Most of the time it is April to June

Nest : A shallow scrape in the soil, lined with twigs and grass

Clutch : 3-5 eggs

Incubation : 24 days
