Photographer's Note

Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti are a set of steps in Rome, climbing a steep slope between the Piazza di Spagna at the base and Piazza Trinità dei Monti, dominated by the Trinità dei Monti church at the top.

The monumental stairway of 135 steps (the slightly elevated drainage system is often mistaken for the first step) was built with French diplomat Étienne Gueffier’s bequeathed funds of 20,000 scudi, in 1723–1725[citation needed], linking the Bourbon Spanish Embassy, and the Trinità dei Monti church that was under the patronage of the Bourbon kings of France, both located above — to the Holy See in Palazzo Monaldeschi located below. The stairway was designed by architects Francesco de Sanctis and Alessandro Specchi.

fantastique image nocturne et vue quelle vue et effet de contraste e lumière entre le bas et le haut, cette fontaine en premier plan ces personnages qui donnent l’animation et ce très grand escalier qui nous mène au sommet splendide.

This is a very clear and interesting photograph, with so much to see!
You have composed the shot so that there is a very natural movement through the scene, from the amazing fountain in the f/g, up the beckoning steps to the the white church, spectacularly illuminated against the night sky.
The people not only add interest, they also act as a guide.

Perfectly exposed nocturnal composition featuring this famous Roman landmark. I like very much the point of view and the expansive view up the steps. The people are nicely dotted about the frame and contribute much to the mood. Excellent technical realisation.

Hello Daniel

This is a crisp and sharp image: no doubt you used a tripod. The light has been handled well and there's plenty of animation. But the more I look, the more I'm persuaded that you managed a pretty fast shutter speed, as I can see very little movement blur in any of the figures: maybe a high Iso setting (as you seem to have achieved good depth of field as well, suggesting a smallish aperture). A bit of a puzzle! But an excellent result!

Brill clarity under low light without hot spots, that's a perfectly composed image with main interests well placed and highlighted. The illuminated bright church in the bg further adds as a strong anchor point, and contrast to dark blue sky is splendid. What makes this even more graceful is people's participation. Very stylish shot with cutting edge!!! Congrats

Je suis très content de constater que la réfection de la fontaine est terminée et qu'on peut maintenant l'admirer dans toute sa splendeur. On voit que c'est froid car personne n'est assis sur les célèbres marches. Magnifique photo de nuit.

It isn't so different from 200 years ago, I just phographed a lithography by Piranesi made in 1761.

is it just me or does the fountain look different? not sure, I know it was under construction when I visited about 3 years ago. anyways, i always enjoy these classic views and post card type of shots. Lovely mixture of darkness and illumination. clarity and sharpness too. cheers
