Photographer's Note

Built on a slope dominated by the cliffs of Mount Coscerno (m.1684), fronting the cliffs of Mount Hermit and Walls of Valcasana, the late-medieval castle Gavelli still appears today, who rises from the river valley Black, an almost inaccessible place.
The ancient human presence, which has developed agro-pastoral economy still highly readable in the structure of today's landscape, did not alter the nature and environmental beauty of these places, some place names evoke the ancient presence of the wolf and the bear, while the golden eagle nest again in the crags of the mountains around Gavelli.
Gavelli, "clavellum" in medieval documents, underlining the strategic location of the castle and its function of "access key" to the mountain territory of Valnerina, was part of the possessions of the Lombard Duchy of Spoleto.
