Photographer's Note

Piazzetta di San Marco is located between the Doge's Palace and the Library in Venice. It is known for the two columns located there that pay homage to two of Venice's patrons - St. Mark and St. Teodoro of Amasea. The columns have long served as the official gateway to the city. Until the mid 18th century, the piazetta was also an area were criminals were executed. Source: aviewoncities.com

Hello Gosia,
Your blue hour photos are always of the highest technical quality, but you also manage to capture the beauty and atmosphere of the place. Here, as in your fabulous London "Night walk", I think it's the inclusion of the couple in the foreground that does the trick. We see the piazzetta through their eyes and can imagine the romantic atmosphere, the still warm air and the sounds as they experienced them.

Hi Gosia,
Beautiful take on this icon, the point of view is perfect with the tall tower perfectly on thirds while the two tall columns still remain such important and imposing elements. The light is spectacular, as is the effect of the gold on beautiful blue. The statue on the top of the pillar being in perfect silhouette makes it look some sort of monster getting ready to pounce, a very cool effect.

haha...i knew you'd be taking a photo like this one in Venice, i was waiting for something like this to pop up.

the F14 really works well to bring out the starlights, and its amazing how still that person is depite the 15 sec exposure.

fun shot with the blue and yellow color contrasts.

Gosia, this is like an illuminated manuscript painted in gold and blue. Beautiful work expertly photographed in difficult conditions with the bright lights and moving people.This is a lesson for people like me who normally don't carry a tripod. Pozdrav. Klaudio.

A traditional and well known view, and yet, this is a sensational rendering which makes it appear new and exciting. Another superb blue hour picture which plays right into the strength of Venices magical allure and mood. A superb blue hour shot from St Marks in Venice. Good use of a slow shutter speed in the aperture priority setting to get the starburst effect on the light pinpoints. Excellent sharpness and superb warm vs cold color contrasts between the yellow and blue. Tfs!

anche questa è una fotografia straordinaria.
In questa hai utilizzato il treppiede ma la scelta del diaframma f/14,0 ed il tempo di scatto di ben 15 secondi è stata indovinata anche se hai corso il rischio che la coppia davanti alla colonna si potesse muovere.
Le luci si sono trasformate in stelle per effetto delle lamelle del diaframma e la nitidezza ha raggiunti livelli assai elevati tanto da permettere di ammirare ogni più minuito dettaglio.
Una Venezia straordinaria quale solo di notte è possibile ammirare lontano dalla folla che di giorno affolla questa piazza.
Complimenti anche per questo scatto di gran qualità.

A fantastic blue hour shot! The piazza is surprisingly empty...cannot think of Venice that way. The long exposure and narrow aperture has helped create ghosts of people and the star effect in the lights, bth are attarctive!
