Photographer's Note

After many days of sunshine and spring temperatures, even in my country has come the winter. A bottom view of the Basilica of St. George of Cuggiono.
San Giorgio is the dominant Catholic Church in Cuggiono. There is a second Catholic Church, San Rocco, that is used for services as well. San Giorgio celebrates 400 years of service in 2006, and the rich architecture of the church as well as its well-attended Masses attest to the continuity of prominence in the community.

FINALMENTE E' INVERNO!

Dopo tante giornate di sole e con temperature primaverili,anche nel mio paese è arrivato l'inverno. Una vista dal basso della Basilica di San Giorgio di Cuggiono.
Iniziata il 25 aprile 1606 su progetto di Francesco Richini, fu aperta al culto nel 1633. La facciata fu completata nel 1846 dall’arch. Giovanni Battista Bossi mentre il pronao fu aggiunto nel 1902. Il campanile fu portato all’altezza attuale nel 1758. Nel 1889 fu issato il concerto di 8 campane tuttora esistente. L’interno fu affrescato e decorato negli anni 1908-10 dal pittore Luigi Morgari e dal decoratore Aristide Secchi, eccetto alcune decorazioni secentesche e le statue in stucca situate nelle nicchie delle pareti. Gli affreschi della cappella della Madonna del Carmine, della metà del Seicento, sono invece attribuiti allo Storer mentre la pala dell’altare è di Carlo Francesco Nuvolone. Interessante la pala della cappella de Santi Giorgio e Benedetto, raffigurante San Giorgio, riconducibile alla scuola del Luini. La statua di San Giuseppe, nell’omonima cappella, e la quattro statue all’ingresso del presbiterio sono invece opere secentesche degli intelvesi fratelli Pozzi. L’altar maggiore fu costruito nel 1802 su disegno del Pollack, mentre l’organo, ricostruito nel 1817 da Eugenio Biroldi che utilizzò alcune canne e registri del vecchio organo realizzato nel 1644 da Michelangelo Valvassori, fu ingrandito nel 1865 dai fratelli Prestinari. Di fronte all’organo grande tela raffigurante l’Immacolata Concezione dipinta nel 1717 da Pietro Gilardi. All’ingresso del presbiterio è stato provvisoriamente collocato il coprifonte battesimale attribuito a Carlo Garavaglia, quasi certamente nato a Cuggiono. E’ l’autore del tabernacolo del vecchio altar maggiore, ora nella cappella di San Carlo e dalla sua bottega è uscito anche l’altare ligneo della cappella di Sant’Antonio da Padova.

Ciao Luciano.

Your narrow dof makes the frost covered bushes really grab the f/g. They make a strong contrast with the misty b/g full of cold aymosphere.

Ah, I recognise this beautiful church! The Church of St. George the Martyr, just across the road from where you live!

I commented before on your wonderful photograph of this church in winter during a snowfall, but this one is completely different. Taken during the middle of the day in bright light, the upper parts of this beautiful building are swathed in cold mist but the foreground bushes, heavily covered in deep frost add a fine feature as well as great depth to the picture.

Lovely soft colours, a lovely mood, perfect exposure and excellent detail and sharpness.

Basilica quasi surreale, come emergente dal nulla nelle nebbie padane. Molto concreti i gelidi arbusti in primo piano. Ottimo scatto da brivido. Ma tranquillo, il tuo freddo fa ridere in confronto al mio! Qui -25 anche stanotte!

You seem to be happy winter is in full swing, as the title suggest...
Looks very cold but majestically the basilica facade and sculptures emerge from the fog.

Finalmente una foto di Cuggiono, e che foto!!! Già è difficile fotografare la nebbia, dissolvendo forme e colori senza macchie e rumore, ma qui tu hai dato prova di grande esperienza e bravura, soprattutto compositiva. Questa pianta ghiacciata in primo piano è qualcosa di fantastico, sembra un corallo bianco! Prima o poi vengo a fotografarla 'sta chiesa, e magari poi vengo anche a controllare se fai bene gli spritz! :-)
Bellissima foto, caro Luciano, con una unica pecca, ma che non dipende da te: quel filo pendente davanti alla chiesa sembra un graffio alla foto, bisognerebbe dire a quel "cazzuto" che lo ha messo proprio lì, di toglierlo al più presto, altrimenti disturba le tue foto! ;-)
A parte gli scherzi, hai fatto veramente un buon lavoro, bravo!
