Going to the Mass, a photo from Ragusa, Sicily

Photographer's Note

One Saturday afternoon in front of the Cathedral of San Giorgio in Modica, in company with Giuseppe (peppe59), in his splendid Sicily. An elegant lady is quick to enter into the church for mass. It's nice to see how people respect the religion by dressing elegantly, like go to an important celebration. As it was pleasant to spend a day in company with a great friend and his lovely wife. I dedicate this image to Giuseppe (peppe59) and Giorgio (ciakgiak) hoping to soon see still many photos of their beautiful Sicily.

Un sabato pomeriggio davanti alla Cattedrale di San Giorgio a Modica, in compagnia di Giuseppe (peppe59), nella sua splendida Sicilia. Una elegante signora si affretta ad entrare in chiesa per la messa. E' piacevole vedere come le persone rispettino la religione vestendosi elegantemente, come andassero ad una festa importante. Come è stato piacevole trascorrere una giornata in compagnia di un grande amico e la sua deliziosa moglie. Dedico questa immagine a Giuseppe (peppe59) e Giorgio (ciakgiak), nella speranza di vedere presto ancora tante foto della loro stupenda Sicilia.

secondo me le persone che vanno a messa vestono eleganti per sfoggiare i loro abiti e non certo per rispetto a Dio. Forse mi sbaglio, ma ho questa sensazione.
Bella immagine della mia Sicilia, anche se non è della mia Catania.

Bravo Paolo, davvero bella! Hai avuto una intuizione geniale nel fotografare questo scorcio di sclinata dando largo sapzio alla morbida curva dei gradini. Il movimento sinuoso conduce proprio alla signora che sale verso la messa elegante e composta. E intorno, quasi una quinta teatrale, i bellissimi edifici di Modica. Bellissima da tutti i punti di vista!

Il luogo é magnifico, la foto é perfetta. Ma io non l'avrei scattata. Certo perché sono ancora troppo intrisa dello stile "riviste Dove e Capital". Ci ho lavorato per 25 anni. Lì il dictat era: belli, giovani, biondi, palesemente ricchi!". Altrimenti non si fotografava. E di sicuro nessuno dei miei fotografi avrebbe immortalato 'sta signora in età, traballante sui tacchi. Scusami, considerazioni da vecchia giornalista di turismo.

This is surely another beautiful old city!It must be great to spend some time discovering the little streets. Your pov is very good and you captured a good moment with the lady reaching the stairs of the church. I also like the colours and the details of the architecture.

Hai molto ben captato il desicivo momento con la donna che avanza verso la chiesa. L'attegiamento di questa donna e particolarmente ben captato.
Ma hai anche prendeto due picciono con una fava, perché la decorazione e anche molto bella e molto interessante con l'incurva scale, al primo plano, che da ritmo e dinamismo. Bel effeto grafico anche con le case. Una grande foto!

very original and interesting composition. I like the winding stairs in the foreground well emphasized by the low POV. They cut in the frame diagonally creating a nice geometric effect. The lady adds some action and interest. Great idea for the note and title to teach us about the world. The houses make an intriguing labyrinth further in the back.

Stavi andando alla Messa anche tu? ma tu sei un angelo, non e' necessario, secondo mi :) Sei stato molto fortunato ad avere il carissimo Peppe e la sua moglie come tour guides. Sono amici eccezionale. Ma che bella la tua foto. Mostra tutta della bellezza di Modica con un gran classe. Bellissime le curve degli scallini. La signora molto elegante finisce l'opus perfettamente. Ottima resa cromatica e profundita, specialemente per le casette nel sfondo. Semplicemente bella!

It is a very nice photo of the village gradually building up the hill, Excellent POV ov the layers of stairs, and the woman walking up the steps adds human element as well as liveliness and daily value of the local residence going their business like attending a mass.

Questa mi ricorda le foto di Silvio: "vista del borgo con signora"! (:-) Beh, la composizione è ottima con la scala in diagonale che dà dinamicità e la vista del borgo arroccato sul colle con le sue case quasi uniformemente gialle. E' un'immagine che ricorda subito il sud d'Italia e ha quindi un'atmosfera inconfondibile. Provvidenziale la signora che va a messa.

Ciao caro generale Paolo,

she looks very elegant indeed. But she is the only one, not so much people going for mass. I like chosen POV, specially the curvy sctairs looks very attractive. I would like to spend a sunny day in Sicily in company of Giorgio, Maurizio and L'Assessò :). Fantastic houses one over the other. But in spite of the wonderful view I wouldn't like to live there. imagine return home everyday...

With modern machinery I can see how buildings can be constructed on the walls of cliffs, but only Italy is it posible to see buildings constructed in the 16-19th centuries on such steep topography. Such imaginative people, this style gives every occupant a view of the sea, but it also gives people a great deal of exercise, this woman is emblematic of the required climbing, and climbing. It's a beautiful photograph that accentuates the verticality of the landscape. With the golden hues, it is a very beautiful photograph, Paolo.

Queste sinuose linee dei gradini accompagnano benissimo le caratteristiche barocche delle case di Modica, città che mi è piaciuta moltissimo.
Vedo che aveva piovuto. La signora sembra aver fretta.
L'inserimento di questo elemento umano è decisamente riuscito.

The forms and lines, especially curved ones of the staircase in the foreground, are simply beautiful in this excellently composed and masterfully captured scene. Wonderful capture of this cityscape in vertoramic view. The steps below and the steps of houses built in the hill is cleverly captured. You may would like to correct some aberrations on the top edges but its an optional as it is not interfering. Great composition with nice POV.

The lines of the stairs make an effective lead to the houses clinging to the steep hillside!
The lady is a fine inclusion, adding life to the scenery...
Fine details in the architecture, I notice so many houses are of the same colour!

Un altro post molto interessante per l'estetica e la significanza più profonda dell'immagine. Ottima composizione con questi vecchi abitazioni soleggiate appoggiandose sulla collina.
