277- Peccioli, a photo from Pisa, Tuscany

Photographer's Note

Peccioli is a small Tuscan town located 30 km southeast of Pisa.
The hill on which it was built dominates the Era River Valley, with superb panoramic views of the surrounding hills.
Regarding the economy, the vocation of Peccioli is agricultural (vineyards and olive trees) and touristic, thanks to the picturesque nature of its ancient streets with typical architecture ...
But not only ! At the end of the 1980’s, the highly polluting illegal landfill had to be closed and cleaned. In order to fund this process, they decided to enlarge the pit, to bring the waste from all over Italy, and to rehabilitate the place in a model, eco-responsible landfill : All bio-gas emitted by treatment and landfill, is recovered to provide free domestic water and heating.
The municipality became very prosperous, developed a series of artistic, cultural and social projects, not to mention the agricultural program around the vine and the olive tree.
An ecosystem unique in its kind in a historic, picturesque village .

Unfortunately, we did not have time to visit this model, artistic landfill, but we were able to enjoy the picturesque side of the city :-) thanks to our outstanding guide :-) WS3 .

Bonjour, chère Marie-Louise,
C'est toute l'Italie qui chante à travers ces compositions.
J'ai l'impression d'entendre chanter à travers les fenêtres mi-closes des chansons napolitaines.
Quant au linge qui sèche aux fenêtres, c'est le bouquet final de la beauté des lieux qui gardent leur tradition.

A great view of the old houses of this town, whose old walls not only have an appealing warm colour, but also some fine textures, which you captured really clearly. The play of light and shadow is very attractive and the laundry adds a nice daily life detail.

This may be a kind of cliché of an Italian village, but what a very nice cliché! I really like the view of the laundry hanging in front of the battered walls among the green window shutters. The neat pink wall on the right provides a strong contrast that makes me think of prosperity side by side with poverty. You composed this very nicely and the light is beautifully captured.

It is pleasing to read of good eco-practice.
Your photograph seems like a surreptitious peep into the private life of an Italian family. As it is surreptitious, no-one will mind! The details of the courtyard , the textures, the washing and the shadows are sharply collected, whilst your viewpoint has created a fine sense of depth.

It's lovely to see the shot of Carlo. We met near Pisa last year. We had great fun communicating as speak hardly any Italian and he speaks very little English! Our French came in handy!

Although it doesn't look so prosperous these days with the crumbling brick walls and missing plaster, it is still a very picturesque scene. The windows look well cared for and the wet washing on the lines adds interest. Tfs!

All photos posted on this subject are nice and beautiful, MarieLouise.
Personally, I'd prefer the WS#2 with the vast scenery of Toscana green slopes, instead of the inner yard shown on the main photo (I avoid taking laundry-pictures anyhow).
Nice to see Carlo yet again, he already appeared on several TE pictures.

Other people's laundry - one of life's delights for different people.....

Why are we so fascinated with other people's laundry? This is wonderfully practical and inventive, and a lovely slice of normal life. Love the tiny splashes of green, red and blue from the lines, making full use of the light and shade and that fabulous stonework. Excellent shot

I hope the new year has gotten off to a good start for you. :-) I like the details in this photo. The old houses have a lot of charm, and I also like the green shutters, some open, some closed. The clothes hanging on the lines remind me of when I was a child. My mother and our neighbors used to hang clothes to dry in the backyard on long clotheslines.
