Photographer's Note

This time I share with you an image of Rome, my birthplace… My idea was to take a shot of the Colosseum a bit different from classic points of view you can find in thousands of postcards!! This narrow street climbs the hill at the right of Via dei Fori Imperiali, not far from Massenzio’s Basilica, and allows you to enjoy an upper point of view.
Perhaps this picture is not simply to appreciate, but in my opinion it reflects a particular feeling of soft, quiet decadence… Not struggle, not pain, but the peace of abandoned places… In this shot I found the last rays of sun abandoning the Earth, a sad tree in late autumn, and a symbol of the fall of Roman Empire.
Do you think I succeeded in representing these feelings?
Little technical note: unfortunately I couldn’t include in composition the right extreme of the Colosseum because of a wall….
