Photographer's Note

Built between 1856 and 1860 by the Viennese architect Carl Junker, the Miramare Castle was built to the desire of Maximilian of Hapsburg (duke of Austria, and later, Emperor of Mexico) and his wife Charlotte of Belgium.

The Castle remains inside the furniture (by Franz and Julius Hoffman) who graced at the time was occupied by the spouses of the imperial family.

From the outside the castle, with turrets, battlements, in his bright white, contrasting with the blue of the sea, still retains the charm, mixed with romance and melancholy, which made him stay away from political intrigue to Maximilian, whose mild nature binds him go deep in this little oasis on the sea.
