Quartieri Spagnoli, a photo from Naples, Campania

Photographer's Note

Quartieri Spagnoli is a part of the city of Naples in Italy. The Neapolitan language is stronger here than anywhere else. The area, encompassing c. 800,000 square metres, consists of a grid of around eighteen streets by twelve, including a population of some 14,000 inhabitants.

The Quartieri were created in the 16th century to house Spanish garrisons, hence the name, whose role was to quench revolts from the Neapolitan population.

Hello Daniel,
There are many fine details in this photo which seems to express the slight chaos that I associate with parts of Naples. I like the presence of a few persons and especially the light reflected in the wet street. The exposure captures the dark and bright areas equally well.

A really nice view down this narrow alley, the warm colours are very appealing and the golden illuminations are nicely reflected in the wet pavement. The façades add some fine details.

Hi Daniel,
I have only briefly visited Naples but this fits perfectly to the impression I got from this city. Narrow street, balconies, scooters and all other little details make the alley surrounded by old buildings very alive. Street lights with reflections look great.

Napoli at night wondrerfully collected with good DOF and clarity, Daniel.
