Photographer's Note
In Matera there are old facades everywhere, each mix is attractive, I show you one of many as an example, I hope I have not bored you with this series but I will continue with other unique and curious aspects of this city from the next post. Matera is an Italian town of 60 388 inhabitants, the capital of the homonymous province and the second largest city in Basilicata by population, as well as the largest municipality by area of Basilicata, and the nineteenth in Italy.
Known with the names of "Città dei Sassi" and "Città Sotterranea", it is known all over the world for the historic Sassi districts, which make Matera one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. The Sassi were recognized on December 9, 1993, in the assembly of Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the first site in southern Italy to receive this recognition.

Ciao Luciano, This is the most amazing view from these you have shown up to now. It seems that the houses are built one on another. There are people under the arches. fascinating composition.

Hi Luciano
A great wall like ban of buildings. Must be lots of steps to climb in Matera. Good photo in the uneven light. Pin-point sharp per usual.

Bonjour, cher ami Luciano,

Buon Giorno Luciano.
Amazing view over the old city built on the hill. There is plenty to see, I guess one needs at least a couple of days to walk down all the narrow streets. Excellent sharp copy, I like the colours of the stone buildings, soft grey in addition to the brighter facades highlighted by the sun. TFS!!!

Ciao Caro Luciano,
No, you have not bored me for I enjoy learning about new places as well as learning about different aspects of photography.
The buildings are very closely situated and though interesting in shapes, look a little dour in the shadows. They look like huge, giant steps, leading upwards, to the buildings bathed in bright sunlight.
Narrow streets and steep hills somehow suggest old, deeply interesting places!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Luciano,
Another fascinating view, this time of buildings of slightly different size and styles. It really pays to enlarge this photo a lot. Then I discover many interesting details, like the reflections in the windows of the large building at the top, and the group of people standing by the arches of the building just below. It's a well exposed photo and again very neatly cropped.
Best regards,
Gert

Ci vediamo presto.

I imagine picaso creating a painting with these group of shapes in evidence. nice details of the urban area, looks like there isn't any space for the green here.

Luciano, the photo focuses on a part of the town. Matera contains old buildings, they contrast with the modern ones visible in the bg. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.

Buongiorno Luciano,
The afternoon shadows gave a special, tint to the old houses built upon the rocky slop.
A labyrinth style like we saw all over Italia.
Clear picture, distinct contrast.
Saluti e buon weekend,

Another striking Matera portrait, Luciano. It’s very pleasingly rhythmic and there’s much interesting urban detail – exploring it is a very rewarding experience and one can discover things like the tourists in the arcade. I like the selective way the light hits the town, your exposed the pic very judiciously. Looking forward to the continuation of the series! Ciao, Bert.

Hi Luciano,
Wow, this is the ultimate version of old Italian towns built on steep hill. Walking paths are barely visible on this angle. Tele angle obviously emphasizes this effect. This could be a theme for a quite challenging jigsaw puzzle.

Hi Luciano
Fascinating detail of this medieval dwelling with those stacked houses, all the windows, openings and the history. Love the sense of compressed perspective to lend an attractive effect. Well shot
Best regards
