Santa Maria di Propezzano - Morro d’oro (TE)

The church of Santa Maria di Propezzano, together with the adjacent monastery was part of the abbey of the same name which belonged to the Benedictine order. The monastery developed in the same period in which other important abbeys such as San Salvatore di Canzano and San Clemente al Vomano also grew in the Teramo valley. The name "Propezzano" seems to be etymologically linked to that of the Madonna Propitiatrix to the miserable, to whom the church is dedicated.
According to tradition, the building of the church was born from the miracle of the apparition of the Madonna which took place in this place on May 10, 715.
