Photographer's Note

Ok, I promise I will stop complaining about Ireland's weather....after a few more posts :)

This shot here was taken on the last day of my trip. As fate would have it, it turned out to be the best day weather-wise. It was the rare day when it was sunny throughout (well almost) and sunny early on too. Instead of accepting mother nature's last offer of clear skies for what would certainly make a good color photo, I decided to spurn her offer and shoot some IR scenes at this cemetery.

Before I go any further, my apologies to the Irish as I do not know the exact details of this location. If someone does, please let me know. As this was the last day of my trip and I needed to completely cross the country from Westport to Dublin (about 5 hours of driving), I had little extra time to get the details of what I was shooting. Basically I was driving from Westport on the N5, saw that interesting round tower off to the north of the roadway and realized it my might be one of my last opportunities to make a good photo. So I abruptly exited the highway and proceeded to find the tower and cemetery.

Round towers like you see here are found throughout Ireland, the most famous perhaps is Glendalough in County Wicklow. Unfortunately I don't know the specifics of this one, but several of these towers were built between the 10th and 12th centuries as monastic sites. They were generally used as bell towers, places of refuge, and places to store valuable religious manuscripts.

I am new to shooting IR and would appreciate feedback on my processing. FYI, I am using Photoshop Elements 5. Also, if you are new to IR as well, checkout the workshop image here to see the original unmodified file. Please feel free to experiment and post your own conversion.
