Photographer's Note

This large bronze sculpture, depicting a sailor running with a flag, now stands in a suburb of Budapest in an open air museum called Memento Park. The art works on display here were erected in Budapest during the Communist era and were discarded after the regime change in 1989. Luckily the better ones were not melted down as was the practice in previous regime changes, but shipped to this park on the outskirt of Budapest, which now become a popular tourist destination. The statue was originally erected in 1969, in a prominent location, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Hungary's short lived communist republic. The sculptor, Istvan Kiss based his design on a Robert Bereny's famous 1919 poster calling people to join the red army. The statue now called the Striding Soldier was installed in this park in 1992, it is the largest (8 m tall) of the 42 statues displayed in the park.
I put an alternate picture into the Workshop to better show the size of the sculpture.
