Sacred rock, a photo from Attiki, Attica

Photographer's Note

I suppose there are a lot of sacred rocks around the world, but in this case the use of this phrase is certainly justified. It comes naturally to your mind when you see so many ancient temples on the hill standing proudly like Acropolis does above the city. This picture was taken from the top of the Lycabettus/Lykavittos/Λυκαβηττού Hill. It is the highest viewpoint in Athens and offers stunning 360 degrees views over the town, including Acropolis and with the sea on the horizon. The view is spectacular although quite distant. I have showed you before views from Filopapou Hill, from Areopagus, from above Monastiraki Square, so with this panorama I believe I have ticked off the most viewpoints towards Acropolis.

Hello Mariusz!
I`ve never seen photos of Athens taken from this POV.I did not know that this famous landmark is surrounded by so much green /parks. the foreground with more old buildings seems to be the more intersting part of this city, also seen at one of your previous uploads.Great depth with the view at the sea and the boats in the far distance.

What a breath-taking view of the Acropolis, caught in such a great sunlight. I really like how the hill is surrounded first by a ring of trees and then by the wider and dense city. The sea makes a wonderful backdrop also.

Swietny punkt widokowy na starozytne wzgorze i spora czesc Aten siegajaca az do morza. Dobrze wykorzystana pogoda, az sie wierzyc nie chce ze to koncowka pazdziernika, dobry szczegolowy kadr. Juz wiem gdzie sie wybrac na zdjecia Akropolu-dzieki i pozdrawiam

Hello Mariusz,
This really looks like an aerial photo, as if you were on a helicopter flight over Athens.
The sea also seems so close here while it's still quite a long metro ride to Piraeus.
I'm convinced that few who visit the Lycabettus can take such a fantastic photo of the Acropolis from there.

You found an excellent viewpoint from which to capture this quite remarkable view of the Acropolis! It is so clearly a plateau high above the city, which stretches in all directions around it.

wow! I guess few tourists visit this place and take images from this POV. interesting as the ancient people had ever in mind a sacred place in the top of a mountain, even the indians of my region had sanctuaries there. marvelous view with many details and even the sea ahead.
here is raining, real rain, after so many months...
