Shipyards and dockyards are places which repair and build ships. These can be yachts, military vessels, cruise liners or other cargo or passenger ships. Dockyards are sometimes more associated with maintenance and basing activities than shipyards, which are sometimes associated more with initial construction. The terms are routinely used interchangeably, in part because the evolution of dockyards and shipyards has often caused them to change or merge roles.

Το Καρνάγιο είναι δημώδης όρος της κοινής ναυτικής γλώσσας ενετικής προέλευσης. Με τον όρο αυτό νοούνται τμήματα αιγιαλού εντός λιμένων ή όρμων που λόγω της ομαλής κλίσης του επιτρέπει την ανέλκυση και καθέλκυση μικρών σκαφών, περισσότερο ξύλινων προκειμένου να υποστούν "καρναγιάρισμα" δηλαδή υφαλοκαθαρισμούς, υφαλοχρωματισμούς, καλαφατίσματα, παλαμίσματα κ.λπ. Ο όρος αυτός αναπτύχθηκε κυρίως στις περιοχές που βρέθηκαν για πολύ καιρό ενετοκρατούμενες σε αντίθεση του αντίστοιχου όρου ταρσανάς που αναπτύχθηκε περισσότερο στις τουρκοκρατούμενες περιοχές.
Και ενώ στην αρχή τα καρνάγια αποτελούσαν χώρους μόνο για μικρές επισκευαστικές κυρίως δραστηριότητες στη συνέχεια άρχισαν σ΄ αυτά να ναυπηγούνται και μεγαλύτερα σκάφη από εκείνα που ναυπηγούνταν στους ταρσανάδες. Έτσι μετά την Παλιγγενεσία οι πρώτες ναυπηγικές μονάδες ήταν τα μεγάλα καρνάγια της εποχής που βρίσκονταν στο Γαλαξείδι, τη Σύρο και στον Πόρο. Πολύ αργότερα άρχισαν ν΄ αναπτύσσονται επίσης και σ΄ άλλα νησιά όπως στην Αίγινα και βεβαίως στον Πειραιά και ειδικότερα στη περιοχή του Περάματος.
Και όμως αυτές οι μικρές μονάδες απετέλεσαν την αρχή ("μαγιά") του ναυπηγικού θαύματος που παρατηρήθηκε αμέσως μετά τον Β΄ Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο σε μία αξιοπρόσεκτη ελληνική ναυπηγική υποδομή φθάνοντας κάποια χρονική περίοδο η Ελλάδα να έχει τις μεγαλύτερες δεξαμενές της Μεσογείου και από τις μεγαλύτερες ναυπηγικές μονάδες του ίδιου χώρου.

Βέβαια το "καρνάγιο" μπορεί να μη καθιερώθηκε ως τοπωνύμιο, όπως ο ταρσανάς, πλην όμως σήμερα έχει καταστεί από τις προσφιλέστερες ονοματοδοσίες παραλιακών νυκτερινών λεσχών (μπαρ) με εμφανείς διαστάσεις το ...«καρναγιάρισμα» των θαμώνων στη διασκέδαση!

A pleasing tightly framed composition. It benefits from a very nice light and this interesting reflections. The red oil drum is a nice bonus bring a touch of contrasting colour. Very good colours and clarity.

jolis jeux de reflets ici, je regrette que tu n'ais pas assemblé deux photos pour ne pas couper la bateau de droite. Un endroit délabré et peu soigné qui paradoxalement est assez esthétique.
