Photographer's Note

Our second day on Tinos was the only day we had bad weather. It was warm but dull in the morning, but it poured with rain all afternoon and we got a good soaking. It was still fine when I took this photo. It is in a quiet pretty little village called Koumaros with the typical white and blue architecture common to the Greek Islands.
We had stopped there for refreshments in the “honesty café”, which I would imagine is a fairly unique feature of anywhere. There is a Society of Koumarians which has realised a number of projects, like tiling the streets and a children’s playground. The Society’s Hall is used for the café. You go in and help yourself to drinks, leave the correct money and wash any crockery when you have finished, leaving the place as you found it. Amazing!
