Photographer's Note

This pebble-paved courtyard is in the monastery of Panormitis in the south of the island of Symi, but is typical of many in the Dodecanese where they are used both in domestic and religious buildings. The black and white designs are usually geometric but sometimes other motifs are found - the double-headed eagle, dolphins, fishes etc.
In Workshop I have a shot of a corner of the courtyard to show the paving in context.
