Photographer's Note

On boxing day 2009, an unusual weather pattern occured on the peninsula of the monastic state of Mount Athos. While the southern side of the narrow peninsula enjoyed clear blue skies and clear visibility, the opposite northern side was covered in a thick mist up to a hight of 300 meters. Where normally you can see the coastline, all you could see for miles was a white misty carpet. Some of the monasteries were completely submerged in the mist while some others were floating above it. This photo was taken from the Athos capital, Karyes.
