Photographer's Note

Ruins of Isenburg Castle in narrow Sayn valley down from Dierdorf/Westerwald to Bendorf/Rhine.

To the left, the neogothic parish church with a gothic choir from 14th century and the local old school building from 1825.

"Old school" in a double meaning: the most prominent Lord of the castle was Salentin VI, count of Isenburg-Grenzau, who eventually became archbishop-elector of Cologne.
He founded a school of Latin at Andernach which is still going strong and about to prepare for its 450th anniversary: Kurfürst-Salentin-Gymnasium.
