Photographer's Note

I was looking for a photo for the 25 anniversary of Fall of Berlin Wall. I have many photos from Berlin in 2013, but I wanted something from my archive. I posted the photo of the Wall from West Berlin side here. I have no many photos and unfortunately they are of so poor quality. This photo was made in Orangerie Schloss in Potsdam, near Berlin, in 1986.

In 1986 there was exchange between Warsaw University and Humboldt University in Berlin. It was possible to go to Berlin for one week stay in student's dormitory. I found this possibility very attractive but at first LF didn't want to go. But in spite of this I started to organize it. We needed passports. The form for it had several pages : where we lived, were worked the family: husband/wife, parents, children, brothers and sisters (really!), we had to apply for leave of absence and had the signature of someone employing us. In my case it was the manager of Publishing House, in case of my husband it was Rector of the University. All this for a week of holidays in summer! I somehow convinced my husband and he got this signature and we could go.
Easy to understand why I enjoy travelling now so much.

Berlin Wall officially referred to as the "Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart" (German: Antifaschistischer Schutzwall) was of course still there. Who would think then that in only three years later it would be demolished.
