Photographer's Note

Off the coast of Fehmarn on October 25th past. My sons and I were out fishing on our favorite fishing trawler. Weather was very stormy ...... all of the sudden this sailboat pops up and passes us at high-speed using only their fore-sail. Only sailboat we spotted all day and BTW ... it was -5 degrees Celcius.

Eric i love wintersailing. I did a race for myself on the Oosterschelde last december. About your picure. Great capture. It is in your advantage you sid on a stable ship. I feel the cold and the wind. Good job!! I don't no how you orginal looks like. But try to compose the ship not in the middle, that is nicer. Nevertheless, good shot.

It's great, Eric - on a day where robbertjan is not supplying one of his action-laden boating shots, you are jumping in for him. Even without your note, this sure looks cold, judging from the gear of the crew on the sailboat. Nice action, and I like how you "framed" the wind wheel in the back with the boat in front. I understand the options were limited, but a different angle (showing more of a tilt of the sailboat) or a composition with more water around, off-centering the sailboat, might make this even more interesting. Very nice work.

Nice picture Eric. It's looking very cold, but those sailer seem not to werry with that. The framing is very good, the boat....to much in the middle. But good shot even.

COOOLDDD... This one is full of winter atmosphere... You've captured the motion very well, although it looks a bit grainy. strange choice of sails I would say... One would think that on such a stormy weather they'd use the main sail to stabilize, or at least take out a smaller fore-sail... Well, good seamanship or not, they make for a great pic. ...

although i have marked the ws useful, i do like this original composition, Eric.
It´s strong and one can feel the wind and this cold.
i would like to have, however, a way of brightening a bit their colorful clothes, leaving the rest in this dark grey.
