Photographer's Note
The capture's subject is apparent.
Dornier was a German aircraft company which was successful on several fields from 1917 until 2004. Dornier was important in military aviation after 1955, bringing German post-war aircraft production back into existence.
A special highlight was the military VTOL jet transporter Do 31 from 1967, designed as combat zone transporter for a military payload of 5 tons or 36 fully equipped soldiers. The image shows her left wing, equipped with four VTO lifting jets with 19,6 kN each and a propulsion jet with 69 kN, all data to be doubled to include the right wing. The propulsion engine was identical with the one employed in British Hawker Harrier VTOL fighter jets.
The project was cancelled early, though even the NASA regarded the aircraft as "convincingly positive".
Dornier Museum is situated at Friedrichshafen Airport FDH and shows many interesting exhibits from the company's long history.
