Little Jaffna, a photo from Ile-de-France, North

Photographer's Note

"Little Jaffna" is the area in the north of Paris where the community from Sri-Lanka settled two dozens of years ago, close to "Porte de la Chapelle".

Ratha Yatra is a very popular ceremony among that community and within the Indian as well. And now, they try to spread their religious practices in Paris, which a great opportunity to share some aspect of their culture with us.

Relating to the Hindouism, there would be about 100,000 Hindouists in France mainly from Sri Lanka as I said, as the tamoul speaking community fled from that country in front of the major part of the population which practices Boudhism. From 1987 to 1990, the Indian Armed forces helped the Sri-Lanka government to fight the tamoul rebel movement and the latter had to flee Jaffna, their main bastion, in 1995. Today; there is still a guerrilla over there.

I found that woman very beautiful with such a harsh light. I had to clone away some disturbing element in the top left part.

You did away with the harsh light in a good way to create a wonderful portrait. The red comes out very well along with the golden decoration. However, I would like the people in the background to be blurred or darkened, as they distract from the face of the girl.

Magnifique photo, la lumière et les couleurs sont parfaites, le contraste avec l'arrière plan met bien en valeur le visage.

Maybe a bit more sharpness on your main subject. Other than that, it is a good pic. I especially like the composition.

Belles couleurs et très bon cadrage pour ce portrait. Il est vrai qu'un peu de flash aurait permis d'atténuer les ombres qui se trouvent sur le visage de cette jeune femme... mais pour une photo prise sur le vif c'est tout à fait réussi!

Très belle photo Steven, j'aime beaucoup les différentes ombres sur la tunique de cette femme et son visage. Un petit fill-in aurait pu faire ressortir certains détails de son visage.
Les couleurs sont également très belles, très saturées.
Bien vu.

ce rouge sombre et le noir c'est vraiment
tres beau et apporte de la grace a cette
femme. je regrette juste le manque de point sur son visage

Très beau portrait, particulièrement bien réussi!
Le regard est saississant et les couleurs mettent bien en relief cette généreuse composition!
